Bethlehem Tatreez Scarf - Made in Palestine

Made in Palestine, This breathtaking scarf has been designed by Bisan herself.

We are honoured once again to collaborate with the incredible Bisan (@thobna) from Ramallah, Palestine. Bisan works closely with women across the region, who hand-embroider each scarf with extraordinary care, skill, and dedication. she has used a very old design lifted from Bethlehem Tatreez pattern for this scarf, as always she is inspired by the history, her land and preservation of all thats good in this world.

This one-of-a-kind scarf has been embroidered in refugee camps across the West Bank, Palestine, by Imtiaz, and handwoven in Cairo, Egypt, by a family displaced from occupied Palestine. It is crafted using the traditional Majdalawi weaving technique,  a historic textile practice originating in al-Majdal, a city near Gaza once renowned as the textile capital of Palestine. In al-Majdal, weaving was woven into daily life, with looms found in countless homes and generations of family histories tied to this enduring craft.

Today, despite decades of occupation, displacement, ethnic cleansing, and attempts to erase Palestinian identity, history, and culture, the tradition of Majdalawi weaving continues. Through resilience and resistance, Palestinian textile and embroidery traditions have survived colonial violence and forced exile. The preservation of this rich cultural heritage is, in itself, an act of resistance.

Every scarf is entirely unique, with no two pieces ever the same. Each stitch carries stories of the land, its people, and the enduring longing for freedom and return.

As these scarves are handmade under extremely difficult conditions in refugee camps, minor imperfections and weave variations may be present. We believe these details are part of what makes each piece truly special. T

Each scarf has travelled a remarkable journey -  from Ramallah to villages across Palestine, through Amman, Jordan, and finally to you.
